GCSE Business Studies
GCSE Business Studies has been reintroduced for the current Year 10 and has been a popular choice with two groups taking it as an option. The real world of business is investigated through the units of:
Business ownership
Marketing
Human resources
Production
Human Resources
Finance
External influences
Business Studies is relevant to all students as it provides an insight into the real world of work.
The course is assessed through two external exams (worth 75%) and one piece of coursework.
How to help students in Key Stage 4 progress in Business Studies:
Students would benefit from accessing news and current affairs programmes such as Working Lunch and The Money Programme. Students greatly benefit from being able to relate for themselves the learning that has taken place in the classroom to real life examples.
As part of the coursework, students will need to conduct questionnaires. Support from home can be very advantageous. Also collecting other types of primary research, such as visits and observations, can also improve coursework marks.

Mathematics Information KS4
When students enter Y10, they are set according to their KS3 SAT score and potential at end of KS4. They will remain in the same group for the duration of their GCSE course. However, all students are monitored throughout the course, to allow all students to enjoy maths and to be challenged.
At present, we are following the OCR Syllabus A which requires students to submit 2 pieces of coursework (Number and Statistics), which accounts for 20% of the final result and to take a final exam, comprising of 2 papers; calculator and non-calculator.
Coursework will be done mostly in class. Students who do not submit a piece of coursework will score zero. It is the responsibility of the student to meet deadlines for coursework, which will be issued by their class teacher.
Setting arrangements are:
H= Higher grades A* to D, F= Foundation grades C to G.
If a student does not achieve the lowest grade in the tier they sit, they will be given grade U.

At KS3 students are set in half year groups A and B. Each half is made up of 4/5 tutor groups and students are set according to ability and potential. Maths sets are under continuous review, to allow all students to enjoy maths and to be challenged.
Initially in Y7, we set according to KS2 SAT score. In Y8 & Y9 we set using the previous year’s results and teacher assessments.
All KS3 classes follow the Secondary National Strategy. Lessons are split into at least 3 parts, using a variety of teaching and learning styles.
