High Tunstall College of Science Rugby is a major part of school life, and the college has established a well-respected name throughout regional and national schools rugby, having achieved considerable success at the highest levels.
H.T.C.S. Rugby Philosophy
In a relatively short history of playing the game of rugby, H.T.C.S. has encouraged the core values that the game demands, with students learning the key qualities of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship, all of which the college aims to promote.
Representative Honours
Many of the H.T.C.S. players have acclaimed representative honours, with a large proportion of the students being selected to represent Durham County RUFC. Several current H.T.C.S. students are also based at Newcastle Falcons Rugby Academy, a Premiership Rugby Club the college has formed strong links with through the quality of students H.T.C.S. regularly produces.
Training at H.T.C.S
Rugby runs throughout the year at H.T.C.S. and the main focus is given to the 15-a-side element of the game with training specifically directed towards this. The training timetable then shifts towards the 7-a-side element of rugby after Easter, whereby the students are engaged in training sessions which teaches them the fundamental skills and tactics of 7’s rugby.
All students get the opportunity to engage themselves in the game of rugby in whatever aspect they wish, however the core values of teamwork, respect, discipline, sportsmanship and above all enjoyment, are encouraged at every level.
