Achievement and Behaviour

Mission statement

“We expect everyone to treat our college, learning and each other with respect”

At High Tunstall College of Science we believe that achievement, effort, behaviour that supports learning and progress should be recognised, celebrated and rewarded.

In order to maintain a positive learning environment the college operates a policy called Behaviour for learning (BfL). This policy aims to teach, encourage and reward good behaviour. Poor behaviour is dealt with by a clearly defined set of consequences which are imposed by the college, rather than individual staff.

Consequences for poor behaviour include:
• A verbal warning
• A repeated verbal warning
• Isolation for 5 minutes
• Subject teacher detention
• Departmental Referral
• Remove
• College Detention
• Leadership Detention
• Seclusion
• Parental meetings with Year Leader/ Faculty Leader
• Parental meetings with Leadership Team
• Fixed period Exclusion

Alongside the system of consequences the school provides a considerable level of support and guidance for students who have genuine difficultes in managing their own behaviour.

The college works in partnership with parents/carers to try and resolve any issues related to behaviour.

Rewards include:

• Verbal praise
